Often couples will not achieve a pregnancy after a long period of trying. From a medical perspective, a couple is not considered to be infertile until they have tried unsuccessfully to achieve a pregnancy for 12 months. Fertility is also variable amongst different couples. Data from studies indicate that approximately:
- 25% conceive within the first month
- 60% within the first six months
- 75% within the first nine months
- 80% within the first 12 months, and
- 90% by 18 months
All of our doctors are able to provide advice on fertility and to conduct investigations for couples that are having difficulty achieving a pregnancy after 12 months of trying. We also have excellent relationships with local and metropolitan specialists in the event that specialist referral is required.
