Autologous Tenocyte Implantation (ATI)

Autologous Tenocyte Implantation

For damaged or degenerate tendons that are resistant to physical and injection therapies, we offer the autologous tenocyte implantation (ATI) procedure.  This cellular therapy can avoid the need to turn to surgery to treat the chronic pain experienced by chronic tendinopathies.  Tenocytes are tendon cells that are responsible for synthesising new tendon fibres during the normal turnover of tendon tissue.  These cells are markedly depleted and dysfunctional in chronic tendinopathies.  We address this depletion by harvesting tendon cells from a healthy tendon and sending them to the Orthocell™ TGA licensed human tissue laboratory in Perth where they undergo multiplication and processing into a product that is sent back and that we inject into the damaged tendon under ultrasound guidance.

The procedure has demonstrated excellent results in numerous pre clinical and clinical trials.
